Web Design Tips: Making Your Web Site More Customer-Appealing

Publisher: Dmytro Nesterov (Marketing Department Officer )

Here are other tips on how to improve your business website design and make it more customer-appealing:

1. Choosing a Proper Domain Name.
Before launching your website, it is rather important to choose a proper domain name for your website. A domain name is actually your website address (i.e. www.mysite.com). Well, it is advisable to include either your trade name or your business “keywords”. For example, if you sell used cars the “www.usedcars4sale.xxx” would be a good choice for your website domain name.

2. Importance of a Good Home Page Design
Home page design is actually one of the most important things to consider when building a business website as this page is the first page your visitors will see and it is crucial to gave them a positive impression from the first visit.

When designing your home page try too avoid long descriptive texts, but better set forth only brief fact about who you are and what your business is about.

Use a noticeable font (e.g. headers) to mark separate informative sections on the home page.

One of the most important purposes of a Home Page is to stimulate your visitors to do what you want them to do. Use various font colors, sizes as well as various images or banners to ask your visitors to contact you, schedule a consultation or review your product/services page. But you should not abuse this method. Try to keep your home page neat and simple and do not use high-pressure advertising.

Uploading one or a few images on the Home Page is also conducing to customer captivation. Original and appropriate design of your Home Page is a key to your success.

3. About Us Page
As I already mentioned in the previous article, it is important for any trustworthy business to have a multi-page website. That’s why you should consider designing at least a Home Page, an About Us Page and a Contact Us page.

The “About Us” is where you can put extensive information about yourself or your business. However do not use very long paragraphs. You can also include your location map to the page.

4. About Us Page
Make sure you make this page simple with emphasis on the ways to contact you. Even if you want to make an original design on this page don’t let the contact information be lost among those distracting things. Use different font styles to make your e-mail address and phone number more visible.

5. Do not Overuse Advertising on Your Site
Whatever you think about advertising, but using a lot of ads on your web page can irritate visitors especially if these are not YOUR adverts as the visitors came to your site to learn about your products and services. Keep the advertising ratio between 25% - 75% (the less the better).

Even if you want include ads of your affiliates or partners, it is advisable to do this only if their business pertains to the same or close niche as yours. Wouldn’t it look silly if you include a ladies’ clothing ad to your website dedicated to the car selling business?

6. Scrolling Text or Auto Play Video/Audio Are Bad Taste
Do not try doing anything which can annoy or distract your website visitors from the main information on a web page. If video or audio is indispensable you can embed it on a web page with making sure visitors can play it when they want.

7. Do Not Use a Full Image Background
Even if you want to use an original image on your website’s background, it must be professionally sliced and integrated into the overall website design since full image background can affect the web page loading time.

8. Include the Navigation Menu Throughout the Website
The navigation menu should be available on each website’s page to enable visitors to return to the Home Page or any other page.

9. Make text readable
Expert web designers recommend not making a line of text more than about 600 pixels wide. Your web page should be as wide as approximately two thirds of your monitor screen to make reading comfortable for both small and large monitors owners.

It is also important to make sure that the font color contrasts with that of background. Do not use dark font colors on dark background. There are color combinations which make text reading a nightmare.

10. Hire Only Experienced Web Designers
Hiring experienced web designers and developers is one of key factors of your on-line business success.
